It may seem strange to come by bicycle to a city where all roads are canals and bicycles are not permitted in the lanes and squares.

However, you are allowed to ride your bike

* on several of the lagoon islands (Lido, Pellestrina, Sant'Erasmo);

* in Mestre where there is a comfortable bicycle lane that goes from the flyover near the Mestre rail station to Venice in Piazzale Roma along the two pathways on the Ponte della Libertà;

* in Marghera.

You want to park your bike in Mestre and reach Venice by bus or train? You can leave your bike from the 6,30 am to the 10,30pm - paying €0,50 - in the BiciPark, close to the Mestre railway station.

BICINBARCA: from May 1st to September 28th, 2008

Only on Sundays and the festive days from San Giuliano to Sant'Erasmo Capannone through Lido San Nicolò you can reach the most beautiful places in the Venice lagoon on your bike.

The ACTV has set up a special service during the summer called "Bicinbarca" whereby visitors can reach the most beautiful places on the lagoon on bicycle (for info and reservation, please call 041 2424).

Booking is compulsory. You can buy your tickets at VELA counters/offices, located in:

- Piazzale Roma
- Mestre (Vesta office)-
- Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta
- Punta Sabbioni
- Dolo
